In our latest issue, we take a look at three unique artists, each of whom uses their personal experience and aesthetic to create work that is striking in its ability to tell a visual story. Inspired by real-life experiences, the natural world’s beauty, and the human form, these artists all give us something to contemplate and enjoy.
Andre Serfontein
Andre Serfontein is a Cape Town-based painter and sculptor. He is qualified with a National Diploma in Graphic Design from Cape Technikon and worked as a designer and illustrator in the advertising industry before embarking on a career as a full-time artist. Andre has exhibited his work in various spaces in Cape Town, Knysna and Paarl, and is represented in the Sanlam collection.
He uses a range of mediums, including drawing, painting and sculpting, to explore the human form, often exaggerating certain physical features to fully capture and accentuate his subjects’ essence. Inspired by the beauty in people, nature and the everyday, Andre is drawn to bold and resilient beauty that is imperfect and asymmetrical, believing that there is a rare magnetism exuded by those who are genuinely comfortable in their own skin.
Andre’s work can be viewed at StateoftheART Gallery in Cape Town www.stateoftheart-gallery.com.
