Cape Town’s treat lovers have a new spot to obsess over. Holland Bakery has officially opened its brand-new Bakery Café in Durbanville, bringing even more Dutch deliciousness to the northern suburbs.
Already a favourite among locals for its authentic Dutch baked goods, Holland Bakery’s latest space takes things beyond takeaway pastries and into full café territory. Think flaky pastries fresh from the oven, proper Dutch comfort food, strong coffee and shelves lined with nostalgic treats you suddenly want to buy in bulk.
The new café feels warm, relaxed and wonderfully old-school in the best possible way. Guests can settle in with sweet classics like appeltaart topped with cream, traditional custard slices and the bakery’s famous Bossche Bollen: giant chocolate-covered cream-filled pastries that are gloriously messy to eat and entirely worth it.

On the savoury side, there are Dutch favourites like bitterballen, Broodjes Beleg and Broodjie Croquette, alongside light breakfast and lunch options that make this the kind of place you accidentally spend your whole afternoon in.
And then there’s the snoephoekje, arguably the most dangerous corner of the café for anyone with a sweet tooth. The takeaway section is packed with stroopwafels, boterkoek, speculaas biscuits, bokkenpootjes dipped in chocolate and other Dutch pantry staples that feel impossible to leave behind.
The new opening marks an exciting evolution for the brand, which has steadily built a loyal following through its combination of traditional baking, frozen products and online ordering. According to owner Norval, the idea was simple: create a space where customers could slow down and enjoy the Holland Bakery experience in a more immersive way.
And in true Cape Town fashion, there’s also a playful little extra. Customers who arrive wearing activewear receive 5% off their order, no questions asked. A post-Pilates pastry reward system? We fully support it.

Fans of the bakery’s cult-favourite Oliebollen Saturdays will also be happy to hear the tradition continues. Held on the first Saturday of every month at the Tanzanite store, the event celebrates the classic Dutch winter treat: golden deep-fried dough balls dusted generously with icing sugar and best eaten warm.
Whether you’re stopping in for coffee and cake, stocking up on stroopwafels or grabbing bitterballen for the road, Holland Bakery’s new Durbanville café feels like a little Dutch escape tucked into the ‘burbs.
