Panerai Submersible S Brabus Titanio

New Panerai Submersible S Brabus Titanio

Embodying Panerai’s relentless pursuit to watchmaking excellence, the Italian luxury watchmaker has released a brand-new Brabus-inspired timepiece. Intersecting design and the high-performance engineering the firm has become known for, meet the Submersible S Brabus Titanio PAM01403. Paying homage to the year Brabus was founded — 1977 — only 177 examples will be made.

Crafted using Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology, this Submersible’s 47 mm case is made from Titanio. Thanks to this watchmaking technique and, of course, the Titanio structure, the watch is lightweight (30 per cent lighter than a standard titanium case, to be precise). So, how much does the DMLS titanium case weigh? Only 23.6 g. Overall, the watch weighs 115 g. The bezel is made from Carbotech.

However, it’s not only functional… DMLS allows for a uniform appearance, which, Panerai says, is nearly impossible to achieve via traditional methods (the Florence-based brand is one of the few watchmakers to use DMLS). The watch is available with two straps, one bi-material calfskin item, finished in black, and another made of 68 per cent recycled PET.

The Submersible S Brabus Titanio is powered by one of Panerai’s research-and-development department’s — the Laboratorio di Idee — high-end complications, the ‘Skeleton Caliber’. The “stripped down”, P.4001/S movement features a micro-rotor, ensuring automatic winding, providing for a generous power reserve of three days. Underlying the watch’s functionality and versatility, a GMT function, replete with a second bi-colour hour hand and AM/PM indicator is also included. Water resistance is rated at 300 metres (it is a Submersible, after all).
