Cartier Libre is pushing creative boundaries and provoking unexpected encounters. Designed with total freedom by the creation studios, each year a new collection draws on an unprecedented source of inspiration to unveil pieces that surprise, produced in limited editions.
Cartier Libre questions form and design, and challenges expertise and savoir-faire in a constant pursuit of innovation. These creative explorations are part of the longstanding Cartier tradition of richly inspired collections from an insatiable and powerful curiosity.
Creations of pure forms that defy limits and play with new perspectives of lines, volumes, contrasts, and mobility.
Watchmaking, jewellery, accessories: all of the maison’s realms of expression are electrified, re-explored, and questioned. A creative, cultured mix, for collections free to express their style and spirit.
The Polymorph Collection
POLYMORPH, THE NEW EDITION FROM CARTIER LIBRE, IS A COLLECTION OF WATCHES AND JEWELLERY THAT SHARE A COMMON CHARACTERISTIC: THE ABILITY TO TRANSFORM.
Inspired by nature and the way in which everything is constantly in motion, Cartier creates pieces that are flexible, an homage to the kind of creativity that welcomes the unexpected.
It’s a stylistic exercise that draws on the origins of the Maison’s passion for surprise, animating the still, and bringing even the most refined creations to life.
A way of lightly blurring the lines in order to resemble nature and its constant evolution, turning the sun’s trajectory into a bracelet and the sway of a precious flower’s pistil into a ring that dances on the hand. As well as this, unique sets that transform in the blink of an eye.
For Cartier is never what you expect it to be. Its vision transports, far away, to a place where the Panther appears in a flash, where exquisiteness is the norm, where unprecedented jewellery is found. The signature of a Maison on the move.
Claws Out
A PIECE FOR ANY OCCASION. ALL THAT REMAINS OF THE PANTHER’S SAVAGERY ARE ITS FOUR CLAWS, WHICH CARTIER BRINGS TO LIFE IN A SUBTLY REPRESENTATIONAL VERSION, IN THE SHAPE OF A PRECIOUS, GRAPHIC BROOCH.
A stylish and audacious piece, with a unique design featuring four large moonstones and snow-set diamonds with custom-cut onyx.
The brooch clips onto the lapel and, when pressed, reveals a miniature dial paved with snow-set diamonds.
Modulation of Frequency
CONVERTING THE DIAMOND INTO AN EXTRAVAGANT SCULPTURE, A SPECTACULAR RING THAT COMBINES THE BEAUTY OF ITS DAZZLING DESIGN WITH THE INTERPLAY OF TRANSFORMATION.
This dome, entirely paved with diamonds mounted on invisible stems, changes size when pressure is applied. An organic, living creation that radiates light with the slightest motion.
For Cartier, jewellery exists only in its relation to the body: mobile and light, it merges with the skin to become part of a playful and ever dazzling gesture. Luxurious in its size, surprising in the pleasure and comfort it offers, this ring is in keeping with the Maison’s tradition and celebrates Jeanne Toussaint’s love for jewellery with generous proportions.
Sewn with golden thread
CARTIER ALSO TAKES PLEASURE IN CELEBRATING METAMORPHOSIS. TO DEMONSTRATE THIS, CARTIER BORROWS THE USE OF GOLD FROM THE ART OF KINTSUGI. IT BECOMES A THREAD THAT TRACES THE MARK OF THIS TRANSFORMATION.
The Maison combines this creative twist with the radical use of custom-cut onyx. Since the 1930s this rigid form of bracelet has been part of the Maison’s repertoire. This dark, luminous gem is a catalyst of contrasts and elegance. From this common feature, two bracelets were born. One is adorned with inserts of lapis lazuli, black opals and sapphires. While a line of sapphires, emeralds and calibrated diamonds decorate its edge.
The other combines sugilite, rubies, amethysts and black opals with red accents – red further emphasised by the rubies that alternate along its edge, beside amethysts and diamonds. The quality of the lapidary work reflects the talent of the jewellers. Impossible to see at first glance, it is the key to these fascinating creations.
Seeing isn’t believing
THIS ENCHANTING BRACELET HAS A DUAL PERSONALITY – BY DAY, IT’S A RIBBON OF GOLD THAT PLAYS WITH BOTH FULLNESS AND NEGATIVE SPACE. AT NIGHT, IN A SUDDEN TWIST, IT TRANSFORMS INTO AN EXPLOSION OF LIGHT, LIKE A SHOWER OF DIAMONDS.
Transforming to reveal another surprising side. Going beyond initial appearances to uncover something new. Cartier has a special interest in modular design, due to the magic of its ingeniously articulated structures that endlessly push the boundaries of beauty. It is this vision that gave rise to a bracelet with a radiant and entirely open-work structure.
It’s all in the details
ALWAYS ON THE MOVE, BUT NEVER LACKING IN STYLE OR SPIRIT. WHY NOT TURN A CARABINER INTO AN ACCESSORY THAT TELLS THE TIME? YES, A CARABINER, BUT FUNCTIONAL IN EVERY WAY AND COLOURFULLY PAVED WITH SNOW-SET DIAMONDS.
In the centre, a rotating component displays a diamond-paved dial, bordered by emeralds and channel-set sapphires. At 12 o’clock, sits a ruby. On either side, lapis-lazuli, onyx, black spinel, turquoise and chrysoprase beads coil around each other in infinite chromatic combinations. The carabiner is opened by pressing on a sapphire cabochon, concealing a button that activates a diamond-paved band bordered by a square of channel-set buff-top rubies. This functional yet utterly extravagant jewel showcases a multitude of expertise, cuts and settings: channel-set baguette diamonds, snow-set or brilliant-set diamonds, prong-set sapphire and emeralds.
See and be seen
CARTIER’S BOLDNESS IS MEASURED BY THE INVENTIVENESS OF ITS NEW CREATIVE IDEAS. BASED ON A PALETTE THAT IS SYMBOLIC OF THE MAISON – CORAL, EMERALDS, ONYX AND DIAMONDS – THE DESIGNERS HAVE CREATED THIS PIECE OF JEWELLERY THAT CAN BE TRANSFORMED INTO EARRINGS OR A TIARA.
The stones create a highly refined composition, with small touches of geometric motifs that bring the design to life. This most precious and unique accessory combines the excellence of jewellery-making with the sensuality and pleasure of transformation.
From sunrise to sunset
THIS BRACELET DESCRIBES THE DIFFERENT STAGES OF MOVEMENT AND TRACES THE PATH OF A SUNRISE, AND ITS NUANCES OF LIGHT, THROUGH ITS SPECTACULAR ARCHITECTURE AND ORIGINAL DESIGN.
This burst of colour comes from Jeanne Toussaint’s passion for natural materials and gems that aren’t traditionally used in jewellery-making, selected here for their chromatic beauty.
The bracelet brings the magic of movement to life through the interplay of colours in the gemstones: pink chalcedony, orange moonstone, palmeira citrine, Madeira orange citrine, intense fire opal, spessartite garnet, pink sapphire and yellow sapphire, along with an orange rutilated quartz that blazes like the sun. Each crescent is paved with diamonds and fine stones, held between golden prongs that grip the central gem.
Stepping up
AS WELL AS THE NECKLACE AND THE WATCH, CARTIER LIBRE OFFERS THE SHOULDER JEWEL. A SINGULAR ACCESSORY THAT APPEARS IN THE MAISON’S RECORDS DATING BACK TO THE 20TH CENTURY. THE PRINCIPLE IS SIMPLE: A LONG, JEWELLED VINE-LIKE CORD, WORN OVER THE SHOULDER WITH A WATCH CHARM ON THE FRONT.
A gold dial with two Roman numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock is concealed behind a blue enamelled guilloché cover. The brancards are set in a square of buff-top emeralds and sapphires. On the back, there is a sapphire tassel crowned with buff-top emeralds and a turquoise bead. For these masterfully crafted trimmings, technique and exquisite design create a radical composition – from the threading to the cutting of the gems, from the proportions to the effects of the materials, from the freedom of movement of each part to the fluidity of the piece as a whole.
Celestial Encounter
BLACK AND WHITE: AN EMBLEMATIC CARTIER COMBINATION THAT HAS BEEN PART OF THE MAISON’S STYLISTIC VOCABULARY SINCE 1910. THE GRAPHIC CONTRAST OF THIS RING SIGNIFICANTLY ELEVATES THE EFFECT OF THIS EXQUISITE IMITATION OF A SOLAR ECLIPSE.
Four rotating discs of white gold, onyx and diamonds break down the movement of the phases of this phenomenon: the ring can be unfolded on the hand to its full width or folded inwards to create a single focal point. A demonstration of the jewellers’ expertise and evidence of the Design Studio designers’ admiration for the beauty of nature. This ring stands out for its innovative and infinitely interactive design.
Time as an accessory
RECOGNISING BEAUTY WHEREVER IT MAY LIE, DOWN TO THE SMALLEST DETAIL. THERE’S NO SHORTAGE OF DETAIL IN THESE TWO BROOCHES, WITH THEIR ABUNDANCE OF COLOURED STONES, THEIR VARIED SETTINGS AND THEIR ART DECO COLOUR SCHEMES.
At once intriguing and extravagant, these spiral watches can be worn on the lapel of a jacket or a sleeve – it doesn’t matter, as long as they do what they are made for: to tell the time by means of minuscule set dials.
Bold, stylish objects that unravel the Maison’s signature codes: the combinations of colours, the hand-cut onyx, ruby and chrysoprase, the precision of the lacquer work, the contrast of the diamond pavé, the abundance of stones including emerald, ruby, chrysoprase, coral, onyx, black and pink spinel, turquoise and spessartite garnet.
