Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, Fossil has released a quartet of new timepieces inspired by the Star Wars franchise.
DARTH VADER
Limited to only 1 983 examples, this piece features several bespoke design elements, each taking inspiration from the central antoganist in the Star Wars galaxy, Darth Vader. And there’s no mistaking this variant… Darth Vader’s helmet takes centre stage! However, the neatest feature is arguably the minutes hand. Highlighted in red, the latter item is reminiscent of Darth Vader’s light saber, and, as it’s the only hand applied to the dial, gives the impressions that he his wielding it. The hours are read via an aperture in Darth Vader’s helmet, while the seconds are indicated at the 6 o’clock marker. For enhanced legibility (for, let’s say, when you find yourself on the ‘Dark Side’), luminescent coating has been applied to the minutes hand and hours. This iteration’s black, 43 mm case features a comic book-style printed illustration of Darth Vader on the back. The H-link stainless steel bracelet’s linear texture and dark hue recall Darth Vader’s armour. The watch is powered by an automatic movement.
BOBA FETT
Inspired by one of the most feared bounty hunters in the Star Wars galaxy, this 1 983-piece limited edition’s 43 mm, resin-coated, stainless steel case and fabric strap have been designed to mimic Boba Fett’s Mandalorian armour, not only its olive-like colour, but the wear it’s gained over (the fictional, of course) time. A single hand is present on the (Boba Fett helmet-inspired, 3D) dial, with the hours and seconds indicated by two discs. An illustration of Boba Fett can be found on the case back. A self-winding movement drives this piece.
STORMTROOPER
The Stormtrooper-inspired piece is even rarer than the Darth Vader and Boba Fett models… Only 1 483 units are available! The iconic stormtrooper helmet is instantantly recognisable on the dial. Thanks to the three-dimensional design, the discs indicating the hours and seconds are visibile through two apertures, while a single hand (the ‘blaster bolt’, if you will) indicates the seconds. The case back features an illustration of a stormtrooper. Reminiscent of the stormtroopers’ armour, the case and stainless steel bracelet are finished in white. Blue detailing is present. Like the pieces mentioned above, this variant is equipped with an automatic movement.
TIE FIGHTER
Reminiscent of the TIE (Twin Ion Engine) fighters in the Star Wars galaxy, this derivative is the rarest of all the pieces on this list. Just 1 183 examples are available. However, it’s not only its rarity that makes this watch so special. This model features a TIE fighter window over the crystal, thus putting the luminescent X-wings in your targeting grid. Additional lume detailing enhances the vibrance of the dial. Another neat feature, the crown features a green top. This piece’s 40 mm stainless steel case, coupled with a bracelet fashioned from the same material, houses a quartz movement.
