Designing the World’s Most Dog-Friendly City – Cape Town
Cape Town dogs have it figured out. They’ve got street smarts, mountain legs, and ocean energy. And they carry the kind of ease and delight that the rest of us are still trying to unlock. They don’t doomscroll. They people-watch. They dig because joy doesn’t need a strategy. They don’t buy into the capitalist-industrial complex. (They’ve already secured their means of production: leisure.) They meditate (aka nap) for hours. Preferably in a sunbeam. They stretch often, with no fancy memberships required. Their screen time? Close to zero. Smug little legends. All while being effortlessly iconic.

With the launch of its new Mother City Collection, Chommies leans into that spirit, not just designing exceptional gear, but imagining a city where dogs are seen, celebrated, and properly considered. Where being dog-friendly isn’t a perk. It’s the point.
This collection isn’t just about style. It’s about culture. Because how we treat animals says everything about who we are. They’ve always looked out for us, in ways both simple and profound. So it’s only right we meet that devotion with the same depth of attention. In their language, subtle, sensory, full of signals we feel more than hear. This collection is our reply. Think of this drop as part high-style, part tribute, part manifesto. It’s a call to rethink how dogs live in cities. Not as sidekicks, but as co-conspirators in delight, liberty, and really good taste.

A Local Love Letter with Global Ambition
Chommies began as a passion project in Cape Town and has become a cult favourite among the design-conscious dog crowd. These pieces don’t just turn heads, they speak to something larger: a reimagined urban life where dogs are visible, respected, and able to roam, rest, and revel in the space they deserve.

The Mother City Collection
Handmade in Cape Town, this leather collection includes vegetable-tanned collars, leashes, harnesses, and accessories in four inspired colourways.
Each piece features South African leather tanned with wattle (not chemicals), solid brass hardware, and Chommies’ signature black-and-white flat rope, which is detachable for easy washing and good, clean fun.
Bloublommetjie
For dogs equal parts elegance and chaos — the ones who nap like royalty but dive headfirst into the nearest mud puddle.
Kumquat
Spicy, zesty, and impossible to ignore. Kind of like that one dog at the park who owns every moment.
Apricot
Warm, affable, and playfully flirtatious. Apricot charms with just the right edge of mischief.
Buchu
For dogs who don’t shout to be seen. Quietly magnetic, adventurous, and always a step ahead.

Cape Town Leads, the World Follows
Chommies believes the future of urban design is dog-friendly. And stylish. And rooted in local community. This collection is just the beginning, a way to reimagine how dogs live in cities, and how cities can be reimagined around them. We’re not just dreaming of a more dog-friendly Cape Town, we’re actively shaping it: designing considered, good-looking poo-bag dispensers for neighbourhoods, partnering with coffee shops, hotels, and local businesses to create more welcoming spaces, and pushing for a city that sees dogs not as an afterthought, but as part of the plan.

Let’s Talk. We’ve Got Stories to Tell.
