Tribute Portfolio, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s collection of unique, independent hotels, announces the opening of South Africa’s first Tribute Portfolio Hotel — the iconic Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. Set against the stunning Cape Winelands, the reimagined hotel blends classic elegance with contemporary design, offering a unique experience that reflects the region’s rich heritage and modern luxury.
Located at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain, just 45 minutes from Cape Town, the Lord Charles Hotel offers easy access to renowned wine estates, golf courses, beaches, and cultural landmarks. Nestled within 22 acres of landscaped gardens, once part of an 18th-century farm, the hotel provides a peaceful escape while celebrating the area’s vibrant history.

Following a 2022 refurbishment, the Lord Charles Hotel merges modern design with its historic charm. Inspired by Lord Charles Henry Somerset, the hotel features local artwork, newly landscaped gardens, and stylish communal spaces. The lobby’s abstract installations and African-inspired décor celebrate the region’s wildlife. The 198 guest rooms, with emerald hues and private outdoor areas, offer views of the gardens and surrounding mountains. For relaxation, the hotel’s cosy library provides a quiet retreat.
A Culinary Journey Through South African Flavours
Guests can enjoy a variety of dining options, combining South African and British influences. From hearty English roasts to local favourites like malva pudding and koeksisters, the Garden Terrace offers breakfast, while La Vigna Restaurant serves evening meals with fine regional wines. The St. Andrews Pub provides a relaxed spot for hearty meals and pints.

The hotel features two swimming pools, a fitness centre, tennis courts, and a spa. Guests can stroll through the expansive gardens, which include a gazebo, dam, and stream.
