It’s nearly time for this year’s instalment of the iconic Mille Miglia motor race in Italy, where a total of 405 cars will compete for five days (13 to 17 June, 2023) over a distance of 2 000 km, for top honours. As Chopard is the official timekeeper for this illustrious open-road event, we look at a quartet of exquisite Mille Miglia timpieces from the Swiss luxury watchmaker.
MILLE MIGLIA CLASSIC CHRONOGRAPH
The classic chronograph for a classic racing event, the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph is available in three flavours: two stainless steel variants — sporting ‘Rosso Amarena’ (red) and ‘Nero Corsa’ (black) dials, respectively — and one fashioned from 18-carat ethical yellow gold. The latter derivative features a beautiful ‘Grigio-Blu’ (blue) dial. The Mille Miglia Classic Chronographs’ cases measure 40.5 mm in diameter, with the see-through sapphire crystal case backs displaying the chronometer-certified chronograph movement. The (4 Hz) automatic mechanical unit offers a power reserve of 54 hours. Water resistance is rated at 50 metres.
MILLE MIGLIA GTS CHRONO
Bringing the world of racing to your wrist, the Mille Miglia GTS Chrono sports a 44 mm Lucent Steel case, housing a self-winding mechanical movement beating at 28 800 vph (4 Hz). The COSC-certified unit offers a power reserve of “approximately” 48 hours. The case back features the “1000 Miglia” logo. The matte black dial has a lacquered finish. Adding to the watch’s motorsport-inspired look, the counters are red, as is the “1000 Miglia” logo sited at the 3 o’clock date window.
MILLE MIGLIA GTS AUTOMATIC
Resolutely vintage in its design, the Mille Miglia GTS Automatic recalls the classic design of egendary Mille Miglia race cars. The watch’s 43 mm, Lucent Steel case is coupled with a rubber strap evoking the treads of 1960s Dunlop tyres. The water-resistance rating is 100 metres. The matte-black dial feature several contrast red accents. Inside, Chopard’s 01.01-C self-winding mechanical movement beats at 28 800 vph, allowing for a power reserve of “approximately” 60 hours.
MILLE MIGLIA GTS POWER CONTROL
Billed as a resolutely musculine timepiece, the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control makes a powerful statement. The 43 mm stainless steel case houses an automatic mechanical movement — the Geneva-based brand’s 01.08-C unit — which offers a power reserve of “approximately” 60 hours. A power-reserve indicator can be found at 9 o’clock on the matte-black dial.
