New VW Amarok: SA pricing & spec announced!

Volkswagen South Africa has finally announced local pricing, specification levels, engine and transmission options for the double-cab variants of the new VW Amarok (the single-cab models’ pricing is yet to be released). See pricing for the 16-strong line-up below…



The locally-built new VW Amarok will be available with a quartet of turbodiesel engine and gearbox options:

  • 2.0 TDI 110 kW

Available with only a five-speed manual gearbox, this rear-wheel-drive-only model produces 110 kW and 350 Nm of torque. VW claims an average fuel consumption of 6.9 L/100 km.

  • 2.0 TDI 125 kW

The 2.0 TDI 125 kW/405 Nm model can be had with two drivetrains and two transmission options. The rear-wheel-drive, six-speed manual variant sips 6.9 L/100 km. The 4Motion-equipped six-speed manual model has a claimed fuel consumption of 7.1 L/100 km. The six-speed 4Motion derivative has a claimed fuel consumption figure of 7.7 L/100 km.

  • 2.0 BiTDI 154 kW 4Motion

This four-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel powertrain sends 154 kW and 500 Nm to VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system via a 10-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption is a claimed 7.5 L/100 km.

  • 3.0 TDI V6 184 kW 4Motion

The range-topping engine is coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged V6 produces 184 kW and 600 Nm. Fuel consumption is a claimed 8.4 L/100 km.



Five trim grades are available, starting with the entry-level Amarok to top-tier Aventura.


In addition to the items found on the single-cab model, the double-cab models specified in this trim grade feature all-terrain tyres, side steps, a driver knee airbag, a rear-view camera system with park distance sensors, and cruise control. This is on top of the following items: a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless App-Connect, a multifunction steering wheel and 16-inch steel or 17-inch alloy wheels. A full-size spare wheel is also included.

  • LIFE

As standard, this model features 17-inch alloy wheels (2.0 TDI 125 kW models), 18-inch alloys (2.0 BiTDI 154 kW derivatives) and a full-size spare wheel. The interior features a leather-wrapped multifunction tiller and seat heating (2.0 BiTDI 154 kW). Other items include lumbar-support adjustment for the front pews, height adjustment for the front passenger seat, rubber floor mats, cruise control with a speed limiter, an electronic parking brake, privacy windows and front park distance control.


In addition to the items mentioned above, specified in Style grade, the new VW Amarok features 18-inch alloys (standard on 2.0 BiTDI 154 kW and 3.0 V6 models), 20-inch Bendigo alloys, a load-bed liner, tonneau cover and a cargo management system (standard on the Comfort package), side steps and a chrome-finished styling bar. Other items include high-beam assist, a multi-collision braking system, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and tyre-pressure monitoring. The interior features a 12-inch active information display, a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, inductive smartphone charging, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, ambient lighting and a 230 V power socket inverter. A USB port is integrated into the rearview mirror. Keyless entry and start are also present.


PanAmericana trim adds off-road presence to the new VW Amarok. In addition to the abovementioned features, the PanAmericana features 18-inch, black Amadora alloy wheels (standard on all 2.0 BiTDI 154 kW and 3.0 V6 models), 20-inch Bendigo alloys, an electric roller shutter, a cargo management system (standard on the Comfort package), IQ.Light LED headlamps, LED taillamps, side steps, upgraded suspension, a black styling bar, silver roof rails, metal underbody protection and a load bed liner. The interior features VW’s Discover Media navigation system, a Harman Kardon sound system, Cricket leather seats and rubber floor mats. Safety items include autonomous emergency braking, fore and aft park assist, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.


The range-topping trim line features chrome finishes for the door handles, side mirrors and side steps. Specified in Aventura grade, the new VW Amarok rides on 21-inch alloy wheels. The sports bar is finished in the body hue. An electric roller shutter is also present. The interior features “premium” carpet floor mats.


The exterior paint colours are the only optional items for the new VW Amarok range. The colour palette includes Clear White, Midnight Black, Bright Blue, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Deep Red, Bright Beige and Mid Blue.


The new VW Amarok double-cab models will be available from March 2023 (the single-cab derivatives will retail from Q2 2023). Pricing includes VW’s five-year/100 000 km EasyDrive maintenance plan and a four-year/120 000 km warranty.
