Les Jeux de l’ombre from Hermès explores the movement of shadow — and its relationship with light.
Designed by Hermès creative director Pierre Hardy, Les Jeux de l’ombre is a high jewellery collection that plays — in the most beautiful way — with the contrasts that connect shadows and light. Each piece glows with a colourful intensity, enhanced by using gemstones in dégradé or monochrome shades.
A UNIQUE APPROACH
Hardy’s unique approach to pavé setting brings the collection to life. The Chaînes d’ombre necklace, for example, features flat-cut white diamonds, which are shadowed by dégradés of black spinels and blue sapphires, each of which was meticulously gemset. The effect is of bold juxtaposition as the piece bends gracefully across the skin.
FUNCTION AND FORM
Functional aesthetics is at the heart of Hermès design, and this collection is no different. Perhaps the most impressive piece in this regard is the Couleurs du jour necklace, which features a triptych that opens and closes to conceal its treasures or expose them to light.
RAW INTENSITY
The choice of materials is something to behold — rough, uncut stones were chosen for their particular intensity and form part of a series of rings and earrings. These stones filter the light to produce variations of a single shade. The lumierès brutes ring is part of this series — the striking piece features a rough brown diamond with a shadow of diamonds and a dégradé of brown to ebony diamonds.
