SHE Returns to Cape Town: Where Art Meets Fragrance

Nine female artists. Nine fragrances. One immersive celebration of South African creativity.

Cape Town’s art scene gets a distinctly sensory twist this October as SHE Returns to Cape Town brings together nine leading female South African artists for an exhibition that invites visitors to experience art through both sight and scent.

Presented by 33BREE in collaboration with The Artists Gallery, the exhibition runs from 2 to 31 October 2026, bringing together the latest work of Sarah Danes Jarrett, Cornè Theron, Sara Gaqa, Jaret Loggenberg, Jaime Danielle Smith, Androetta Bekker, Hermien van der Merwe, Claudia Gurwitz and Christa Myburgh.

The exhibition has its roots in Hamburg, where SHE was first conceived in 2022. Four years later, The Artists Gallery has reunited the nine artists in Cape Town, creating a new chapter for the exhibition and celebrating the creative voices of South African women.

This time, there is an additional sensory layer. In a first-time collaboration with Prestige Cosmetics Group, each artist has been paired with a fragrance from an international perfume house, including Narciso Rodriguez, Elie Saab and Tommy Hilfiger.

The result is an intriguing dialogue between art and fragrance, encouraging visitors to consider how colour, texture, form and emotion can translate into scent. Rather than simply viewing the works, audiences are invited to explore the connection between what they see and what they smell, creating a more personal and immersive gallery experience.

For The Artists Gallery Managing Director Jaret Loggenberg, who is also one of the participating artists, bringing the nine women together again is a celebration of both creativity and collaboration.

“We are immensely proud to bring these nine remarkable women together and to celebrate the talent South African women have to offer,” says Loggenberg.

With its combination of contemporary art, fragrance and female creativity, SHE Returns to Cape Town offers something a little different from the traditional gallery experience. It is an invitation to look closer, breathe in and discover how two very different forms of expression can speak to one another.
