In our latest issue, we feature three unique South African artists who each create work that is deeply personal in its own way. Drawing their inspiration from people, places and real sensations, these artists use a range of techniques and mediums to create pieces that invite the viewer to connect with the genuine emotion that drives the work. In each collection, colour, texture and light play together to allow us to immerse ourselves in the art entirely.
Sue Kaplan
Sue Kaplan has obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from UNISA, a Master’s in Fine Art from Wits University, a foundation course in Art Therapy, and an Honour’s Degree in Curatorship from the University of Cape Town. She has exhibited her work all over the country, including galleries in Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Cape Town, as well as at the Agassiz Gallery in Boston in the United States. Sue creates work that she describes as her “personal diaries”. Each piece reflects her thoughts and experiences, and these elements come together to create artwork that is both personal and universal. Her paintings are visceral and filled with colour — they are beautiful and evocative responses to real events, sensations and emotions.
Sue’s work can be found at StateoftheART Gallery in Buitenkant Street, Cape Town.
