An interactive drum show and wine tasting is an experience not to be missed.
Drumstruck, an interactive theatre experience, has returned to our shores. Held at Silvermist in the Constantia Winelands, the show allows viewers to journey through the history of African music, learn to play a drum and be entertained by some of the world’s best interactive drummers. And as an added bonus, the show is paired with a wine tasting that includes a selection of wines from Constantia’s top estates.
THE PRODUCTION
The show has been running in Cape Town since October last year and will continue until the end of April. The performers have toured the world, having done stints Off-Broadway in New York, Australia, Dollywood in the USA, and Japan. First developed in the early 2000s, the show aims to bring the joy of communal drumming to audiences across the globe.
Drumstruck producer Warren Lieberman is excited to have brought the show home to Cape Town. While the show at Silvermist is a scaled-down version of the international production, it includes the same elements of storytelling, learning and interactivity for which it has received rave reviews.
“Drumstruck is a show you don’t want to miss. It’s wonderfully entertaining and interactive and exudes energy like no other. I can’t wait to return for another dose of feel-good entertainment. And the wine tasting, the best of the Constantia Wine Valley, is the perfect accompaniment.” ~ Lauren Zuidema, editor of Aspire Lifestyle magazine.
THE EXPERIENCE
Drumstruck features some of our country’s best percussionists and performers, and there’s no denying the real sense of Africa they evoke. The audience is invited to enter a space that includes a rare collection of indigenous African instruments where they are taken on a journey through South Africa’s musical heritage. Each audience member is given a djembe drum and encouraged to play and sing along with the performers.
“Stunning! Vibey! Musical! Interactive! Entertaining! This show is truly phenomenal!! Such a fun experience. My teens loved it!! Such a gifted bunch of performers who draw you in to their story. Wild!! Kudo’s to everyone involved!!” ~ Anita Hermanus, Tripadvisor
The show is hosted at Silvermist Wine Estate, surrounded by Table Mountain nature reserve and boasts uninterrupted views of the Cape Peninsula. It’s the only organic wine estate in Constantia and has some of the most diverse and unspoilt terrains in the city. Owner and winemaker Gregory Brink Louw facilitates the wine tasting while sharing some of the histories of the Constantia Valley. Children are also welcome to join — little ones can enjoy a grape juice or rooibos tea tasting.
