TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds

The Monaco is a staple in TAG Heuer’s portfolio, with each newly released piece an object of desire. However, it seems the Swiss luxury watchmaker has now introduced what’s arguably one of the most desirable — its very first mechanical split-seconds chronograph wristwatch, the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph…

“The mandate was clear: create the most spectacular Monaco”

Created for Only Watch — a biennial charity auction of luxury timepieces, where the proceeds go towards research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy — this one-of-a-kind Monaco represents a “revolutionary” design direction for its namesake. The La Chaux-de-Fonds-based brand says it spared no expense and accepted no compromises when producing the Ref. CBW2180.EB0318. Indeed, the watch was created by a team comprising the best-of-the-best in the industry.

“The mandate was clear: to create the most spectacular reimagining of the Monaco the brand has ever created and presenting the first mechanical split seconds chronograph for TAG Heuer,” said the company.

Like several Monaco pieces, the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph takes inspiration from a classic Monaco model — the original, which was introduced in 1969, to be precise.

The Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph debuts a brand-new case design, which, like several other Monaco models, takes inspiration from a classic piece, the original, which was introduced in 1969, to be precise. However, for the reinterpreted case, TAG Heuer has utilised its avant-garde mindset, crafting the 41 mm item from a new material made in the TAG Heuer Institute for the project — texturised titanium. The crown and pushers are made from titanium. The case back is fashioned from sapphire crystal, as is the dial.

The dial features block hour markers, coated in Super-LumiNova luminescence. The sub-dials are suspended on titanium bridges.

TAG Heuer’s Calibre TH81-00 split-seconds chronohraph keeps time. The automatic unit offers a power reserve of 65 hours.

The Ref: CBW2180.EB0318 is presented on a handmade calfskin strap, replete with contrast red stitching. A titanium double deployent clasp keeps the watch around your wrist.
