Mervyn Gers Ceramics has launched a new range of elegant stoneware glasses, ideal for anything from whisky to wine, gin to cider. Inspired by the Mediterranean, these are available in the exquisite glazes the company has become known for.
Says Mervyn Gers, owner and creator of the brand: “During the late Pleistocene, humans were baking clay goblets for use. Phoenicians brought the raw materials and technology that led to bronze tankards, and Romans introduced silver and pottery goblets characterised by ornate scrollwork. I’ve always liked stoneware goblets, which were very popular in the 70s, and decided to add our interpretation to the range.”
Mervyn continues that drinking from stoneware enhances one’s experience of life. “There is something special about drinking from stoneware. It’s less formal, more casual. Our stoneware glasses are comfortable to hold and fit snugly in your hand. It keeps your drink cool, especially during the harsh summers we sometimes experience.”
As versatile as they are beautiful, the stoneware glasses are fully functional for daily use, food safe as well as dishwasher and microwave safe. As with all truly handmade ceramics, slight variations in colour and size may occur, which adds an interesting dimension to the glazes.
Exclusively available from Mervyn Gers Ceramics, Yuppiechef, Takealot and other retailers, prices start at R200.53 including VAT.
