Get ready for a night of speed, spectacle, and star-studded cycling at the Nedbank Gravel Burn! On Tuesday 28 October, Blaauwater will host Night Burn, a unique after-dark criterium powered by Red Bull South Africa that promises bonfires, live DJs, and a race atmosphere like no other.
This adrenaline-fuelled event is open to a select group of riders who qualify through the Red Bull KM, a one-kilometre sprint segment featured in world-class events such as the Giro d’Italia and the World Marathon Majors. At the Nedbank Gravel Burn, the Red Bull KM is making its gravel debut: riders’ sprint results on Stage 2 will be compared with their general classification standings, rewarding those who’ve made the biggest leap. Up to 40 riders—a mix of age-group qualifiers and invited athletes—will earn the chance to chase glory under the lights.
Participation is optional, and results from Night Burn won’t affect overall race standings. Every rider takes home an Assos Nedbank Gravel Burn jersey, with extra prizes for those who manage to outrun the foxes.
Speaking of foxes, cycling superstar Tom Pidcock will lead the chase. The 2x Olympic champion and versatile cycling phenom will set off behind the qualifiers, turning Night Burn into a thrilling test of nerve, strategy, and speed. Fans at camp will have a rare opportunity to witness one of cycling’s brightest talents in action up close.
“Night Burn is going to be fun and fast, for those riding and those watching,” says Kevin Vermaak, founder of the Nedbank Gravel Burn. “Red Bull is here to energise every rider, from the fastest to the last finisher, and this will be a celebration that becomes part of the fabric of this race.”
