New workspace & business club, WERKHUIS, the perfect base for a new way of working

A remote-working, members-only sanctuary has opened its doors in trendy Newlands Village, in the heart of the Southern Suburbs decentralised business node. werkhuis is a business club that aims to be the perfect balance between a traditional workspace and everything we’ve grown to love about working from home.

Members get to choose their preferred workspace from Scandi-style hot desks to “own” spots. You can come and go with your laptop or settle down in front of your permanent desktop – whatever works for you. There’s also a private deluxe office suite that’s already been snapped up.

The open-plan spaces are just as suited to focused graft as to collaboration. And when you need a closed place for phone calls, interviews or meetings, there are privacy pods, a reading room and a bookable boardroom complete with conferencing audio-visual equipment. Need to move around while you strategise or a change of scenery for your break? Grab a coffee from the experienced on-site barista and head for the conversation couches or outdoor areas.

Membership will be carefully curated to foster meaningful connections that can be explored further at members-only events or in the excellent restaurants sharing this Newlands node, where members receive exclusive discounts.

“werkhuis came about because we discovered an inspiring space that we knew was perfect for a new way of working,” says Managing Partner Lex Pavlou. The space, upstairs on the corner of Kildare and Mains streets, had previously been filled by the Wijnhuis restaurant. Seven years in commercial property had taught Lex exactly what makes a productive space and he partnered with Zeanne Duminy of interior architects Zeanne + Goss who has made their vision a reality.

“We wanted a space that felt filled with pieces collected, created and curated.

And for members of werkhuis to feel like they are surrounded by meaningful pieces that not only hold gravitas but inspire them… such as Eames loungers, a Grand Piano, Bauhaus chairs, real leather and meaningful art pieces,” explains Zeanne.

What she has created is a professional yet sophisticated-homely environment. Of course, it is also optimised so that users can be at their most productive, with uninterrupted internet, 500M broadband with redundancy line, secure-key access control and a light, airy and spacious environment with incredible views up to the mountain.

“werkhuis is about comfort and creating. The design of this space, has been a process of careful restraint and slow commitment, we are confident that the feeling that the brand evokes has carefully been threaded into the feeling of the space and its interiors,” adds Zeanne.

If the working from a home desk has palled, if you want to keep your home a home, or need the growth platform that access to a community of innovative individuals provides, make an appointment to tour werkhuis.
