“When you find yourself in a small space, you can add elements to the environment that can give the illusion that it’s much bigger than it really is.” says Tam. Here, Tammy Holmes, from Ivy Decor & Design gives her top tips on how to achieve this.

1. By adding floor-to-ceiling Mirrors creates the illusion of space

2. Use feature wall colours to demarcate a space within open plan living areas.

For example: If the dining room and lounge flow into one space, use a different colour on the walls of the dining room to separate it and its mood from the TV room.

3. It’s very important to use the correct size furniture, decor and wall art pieces in small spaces so that the room looks neither too cluttered or empty.

4. Lighter coloured furniture and clever lighting will create space.

5. Lastly, adopt a less is more approach, opting for Quality over Quantity.

Rather spend your money on good pieces that accentuate the space, and can be used in future homes than buying lots of cheaper items that bring down the style and luxury of the environment.
