South African designer, Gert-Johan Coetzee brings his signature sense of drama to fragrance with six new eau de parfums.
Gert-Johan Coetzee has made a career out of creating memorable moments. Now, the celebrated South African designer is turning his attention to fragrance, launching his debut perfume collection exclusively at Foschini, Beauty Box and Bash.
Known for his glamorous, high-fashion aesthetic and for dressing global icons for almost two decades, Coetzee brings that same sense of personality and storytelling to his first fragrance collection. The result is six eau de parfums, each created to evoke a different mood, from playful and flirtatious to mysterious, seductive and unapologetically bold.
A LOVE LETTER TO GRASSE
The collection began in Grasse, France, the historic home of fine perfumery. Coetzee immersed himself in the traditions of the region, spending time with master perfumers and exploring the artistry behind fine perfume oils.
Rather than simply following fragrance trends, the process was deeply personal, with each scent developed around a particular emotion and story.
“Creating these fragrances was a journey of artistic discovery,” says Coetzee. “In Grasse, I fell in love with the craft of fine perfumery. It wasn’t about following trends, but rather taking the time to refine every note until it perfectly captured a specific emotion and story I wanted to tell.”
SIX SCENTS, SIX MOODS
The collection is designed to offer a fragrance for every side of your personality, with each eau de parfum available in 50ml and 100ml.
Gimme Gimme is sweet, playful and addictive, opening with sugared notes and tagete before revealing amber, florals and clove, grounded by moss and musk.
Eau de Trouble turns up the flirt factor, combining orange, anise and almond with rose, jasmine and orange blossom. Caramel, vanilla, tonka bean and musk add a warm, sensual finish.
Rumours & Roses takes a darker, more intriguing approach. Raspberry, blackberry, tangerine and baie rose meet rose and chamomile, with a smoky accord leading into patchouli, agarwood, cedarwood and musk.

Top Secret is mysterious and sophisticated, pairing Turkish and Damask rose with saffron and black pepper, before settling into rich amber and oud wood.
Shhhh… is soft, sweet and seductive, blending pink berries, cotton candy, bergamot and elemi with jasmine, honey and tonka bean. Ambery woods, cedarwood, labdanum, patchouli and vanilla give it depth.
And then there’s Uncontainable, a fearless composition built around cardamom, carrot and fig, with sandalwood, iris, cedarwood and cashmere wood at its heart. Musk, amber, papyrus and leather bring the drama.

It’s a fitting first foray into fragrance for a designer whose fashion has never been afraid to make an entrance. From Grasse to the dressing table, Coetzee’s latest collection is all about turning scent into another form of self-expression.
The Gert-Johan Coetzee fragrance collection is available exclusively at Foschini, Beauty Box and online at Bash.com
