SUMMARY:Zip Zap Circus School and School of Rock Present: Full Tilt
DESCRIPTION:Full Tilt pairs 25 Zip Zap performers with 11 School of Rock musicians aged 11 to 33 for 7 shows at the Homecoming Centre from 23 to 26 September. Tickets are R180 to R250\, and ticket income pays for Zip Zap’s 10 free youth programmes. \nOn the training floor at the Zip Zap Academy in Salt River\, circus performers are building a show with a live band beside them. Nothing is pre-recorded. The music is played live\, on stage\, and the performers and the band come together in the moment. \nZip Zap Circus and School of Rock open Full Tilt at the District Six Homecoming Centre on 23 September for 7 performances\, with the entire score played live\, on stage\, by the young musicians of School of Rock. \nIn most circus productions the music is pre-recorded and fixed\, and the performers time themselves to it. In Full Tilt it is played live\, so the performers and the band respond to each other as the show unfolds. \nThe venue is not incidental. The Homecoming Centre at 15 Buitenkant Street is the District Six Museum’s second building — the old Sacks Futeran warehouse\, where the district’s tailors and seamstresses bought their fabric before more than 60\,000 people were forcibly removed from District Six from 1966. It sits two blocks from the Museum\, on the edge of the area nominated as a national heritage site\, and reopened as the Homecoming Centre in 2022 after Eric Abraham handed the former Fugard Theatre to the Museum. Full Tilt’s Thursday shows fall on Heritage Day itself. \nZip Zap’s programmes are free to every participant and have been since Brent van Rensburg and Laurence Estève van Rensburg started the institution in 1992 with a trapeze bar in a tree in Langa. 1\,493 young people came through the doors in 2025 and more than 25’000 since inception. 5 of the performers in Full Tilt came up through those programmes and are members of the professional troupe that tours internationally and is just back from a month in Reunion Island before they leave for Europe again in November. Ticket sales fund the training. \n“When you watch these performers fly\, you are watching what happens when a child is trusted\, believed in and given room to become everything they can be. Full Tilt is that belief in motion\, and I could not be prouder of what our artists\, and our friends at School of Rock\, have built together.” says Laurence Estève van Rensburg\, CEO and co-founder of Zip Zap Circus. \n“School of Rock and Zip Zap are united by a shared belief that the performing arts have the power to transform lives. While our disciplines may differ\, our purpose is the same: to nurture confident\, creative and resilient young people. We are incredibly proud to partner with Zip Zap on a production that showcases what can be achieved when organisations work together to invest in the next generation.” says Leigh Spaun\, Marketing Director\, School of Rock South Africa. \nFull Tilt is supported by the Western Cape Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS). \n \nBooking and details:\nDates:  23 to 26 September 2026\, seven performances\nTimes:  Wed 23 Sep 18h30 · Thu 24 Sep (Heritage Day) 14h30 and 18h30 · Fri 25 Sep 14h30 and 18h30 · Sat 26 Sep 14h30 and 18h30\nVenue:  The Homecoming Centre\, 15 Buitenkant Street\, District Six\, Cape Town\nTickets:  R250 Ground Level\, R220 Level One\, R180 Level Two\, reserved seating via Webtickets\nBook at:  https://www.webtickets.co.za/v2/event.aspx?itemid=1598730993\nRunning time:  1 hour 30 minutes\nAge guidance:  suitable for all ages\nAccess:  the Homecoming Centre is wheelchair accessible\, with a ramped entrance\, a wheelchair hoist\, and a lift between floors.\nParking:  on-street parking on and around Buitenkant Street.

SUMMARY:Decorex Africa 2026: The Soft Life Edition | Joburg
DESCRIPTION:As the world craves stillness\, Africa’s premier design event answers with a theme built around sensory comfort\, and the beauty of ease. \nDecorex Africa has long reflected how we live\, and where we are heading next. For 2026\, the continent’s leading design platform introduces The Soft Life\, a theme that marks the next phase in its cultural development: a deliberate recalibration of design’s current focus\, and a shift toward balance and more intentional living. \nIn a world defined by acceleration and excess\, Soft Life signals a conscious move away from relentless productivity and toward spaces that restore rather than demand. It is not an escape\, but a response — grounded in the belief that design carries a quiet power to shape how we feel\, how we connect\, and how places are understood. \nOver recent years\, Decorex has explored the forces reshaping our environments\, from sustainability and technology to the systems and cultural shifts influencing how we live and work. Soft Life builds on this thinking\, turning attention toward the human experience within those spaces\, prioritising wellbeing and clarity as the new markers of contemporary design. \n \n“This is not a departure from our previous themes\, but a natural progression\,” says Garreth van Niekerk\, Co-Executive Creative Director of Decorex. “We’ve spent years examining the future and the frameworks shaping it. Soft Life reflects what people are now asking for within that future\, part of which are homes and experiences that nourish\, restore and support how we want to live.” \nA central tenet of Soft Life is soft power: the idea that design can quietly shape perception\, strengthen reputation\, and create long-term opportunity through cultural exchange\, collaboration\, and sustained relationships. \nIt is in this spirit that Decorex Africa announces\, for the first time\, a new international partnership with Maison&Objet Paris\, with South Africa named as the Spotlight Country for the Rising Talent programme at the fair’s September 2026 edition. \n \n“Establishing this partnership has taken an enormous collective effort and represents a major milestone – not only for Decorex Africa\, but for the local design industry as a whole\,” says Sian Cullingworth\, Portfolio Director of Decorex Africa. “Our focus has always been on building real pathways for African design. Opportunities like this move visibility into momentum\, and momentum into sustainable growth. This marks the first of several international partnerships we will be announcing\, all designed to expand meaningful opportunities for local talent.” \nAt its core\, Soft Life celebrates design that is both beautiful and deeply considered. Across installations\, products\, and experiences at Decorex 2026\, comfort is positioned not as indulgence\, but as intention – with every element curated to invite a slower\, more immersive way of engaging with space. \nFor 2026\, this sensibility is reflected through a palette grounded in clay\, deep plum\, warm coral\, sage\, and other neutrals\, juxtaposed with neons that occur so vividly in nature but are often overlooked: electric limes\, neon magentas\, and ultraviolets. This visual language mirrors a broader shift toward design that speaks softly\, yet with conviction. \n \n“Comfort is no longer a luxury\,” van Niekerk adds. “It’s cultural. It’s becoming the language of how we choose to live and design plays a critical role in shaping that experience.” \nDecorex 2026 promises more than an exhibition. It offers a fully immersive experience shaped by the intention to slow down\, look closer\, and rediscover the quiet power of living well. \nWelcome to the Soft Life. \nDecorex Cape Town\n25–28 June 2026\nCape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) \nDecorex Joburg\n30 July–02 August 2026\nSandton Convention Centre \nBoth shows run daily from 10h00–18h00 (Thursday–Sunday). \nVisitors can explore\, compare and shop a wide range of design categories\, while enjoying curated features\, talks\, installations\, and hospitality experiences that extend beyond the traditional exhibition format. \nBuy tickets: https://www.decorex.co.za/global/en-gb/Visit.html

DESCRIPTION:Stellenbosch\, South Africa | 26 April 2026 \nSouth Africa will welcome internationally renowned women’s leadership mentor and visionary Cathy Coyle for a rare\, one-day immersive experience titled The Cocoon\, taking place on Sunday\, 26 April 2026 at the Retreat Centre at Boschendal Wine Estate. \nAt a time when burnout\, identity shifts and leadership fatigue are increasingly shaping the lived experience of women\, The Cocoon offers a grounded yet visionary space for embodied transformation. This marks Coyle’s first immersive experience of this nature on South African soil. \nA respected women’s leadership guide and PhD candidate in transpersonal and integral psychology\, Coyle’s work bridges somatic intelligence\, ecological awareness and consciousness studies. Internationally recognised for guiding women through profound life and leadership transitions\, her practice weaves together the mythic\, the scientific and the deeply embodied. \nThe Cocoon is designed as a living architecture for transformation. Inspired by the natural cocoon as a site of intelligent re-patterning\, where old structures dissolve and new capacities quietly emerge—the experience invites participants into a protected field of nervous system regulation\, somatic listening\, ecological attunement and expanded states of awareness. \nRather than offering prescriptive frameworks\, the immersion creates the conditions for inner reorganisation. Through guided breathwork\, embodied awareness practices and visionary praxis\, participants are supported in accessing deeper perceptual intelligence and reorienting from within. \nHosted by Manifest Productions\, a Cape Town-based initiative curating international thought leadership experiences in South Africa\, the programme includes a seasonal soil-to-fork lunch and is intentionally limited in capacity to preserve depth\, intimacy and transformation potential. \nThis experience is designed for women navigating meaningful thresholds\, leaders\, creatives and visionaries who sense they are between versions of themselves and are seeking both grounded and expansive support. \nSpaces are strictly limited. \nEvent Details\nThe Cocoon – A One-Day Immersive Experience for Women\nSunday\, 26 April 2026\n09:00 – 17:00\nRetreat Centre\, Boschendal Wine Estate \nIncludes lunch\, refreshments and guided immersion. \nBook here:\nhttps://www.quicket.co.za/events/359508-the-cocoon-a-one-day-immersive-experience/#/ \nMore information:\nwww.cathycoyle.com

SUMMARY:The Rocky Horror Show at Theatre on the Bay

The legendary cult musical The Rocky Horror Show lands at Theatre on the Bay in Camps Bay from 7 April to 31 May 2026\, presented by Pieter Toerien Productions in association with the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA). Under the bold direction of Steven Stead\, this electrifying production promises all the wild energy\, wicked humour and rock ’n’ roll rebellion that have made the show a global phenomenon for over 50 years. \nLeading the cast is award-winning South African talent Craig Urbani (We Will Rock You\, My Fair Lady) reprising his iconic role as Frank-N-Furter\, alongside Léa Blerk (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat\, Dear Evan Hansen) as Janet\, Robert Everson (Noises Off\, Tony Awards) as Brad\, Schoemann Smit (Black Coffee\, The Sound of Music) as Riff\, Jasmine Minter (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat\, The Addams Family) as Magenta\, Anna Olivier (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) as Columbia\, Natasha Sutherland (Twelfth Night) as the Narrator\, Micah Stokajovic (My Fair Lady\, Peter Pan) as Rocky\, and Zak Hendrikz (Sewe\, A Christmas Carol) as Eddie/Dr Scott. Audiences are in for a visually striking musically explosive night\, packed with unforgettable songs and outrageous characters. From the moment Brad and Janet’s car breaks down in a storm\, they are swept into a world where nothing is quite what it seems and everything is possible. \nInside the mysterious castle\, they encounter the charismatic corset-clad ‘sweet transvestite’ Dr Frank ’n’ Furter\, his eccentric household and the muscle-bound creation Rocky\, all brought to life with glitter\, glam and iconic guitar riffs. Whether you are a devoted fan ready to dress up and shout your favourite lines or a first-timer curious about the phenomenon\, this is one theatrical event you do not want to miss. \nSo warm up your vocal cords\, pull on those fishnet stockings and leave your inhibitions at the door. SUMMARY:Cape Town City Ballet: David Nixon’s Dracula
DESCRIPTION:Get ready\, Cape Town – this autumn\, the city’s stage is about to get a serious thrill. Cape Town City Ballet is bringing David Nixon’s electrifying full-length adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula to Artscape from 13–29 March 2026. \nSet to a dramatic soundtrack featuring Alfred Schnittke\, Arvo Pärt\, Sergei Rachmaninoff\, and Michael Daugherty\, Dracula first debuted in 1999 and has since become one of Nixon’s most celebrated narrative ballets. Known for its cinematic Gothic vibe\, daring choreography\, and theatrical flair\, this production is getting a Cape Town makeover with Nixon himself at the helm – directing\, designing the sets\, costumes\, and stage\, and working alongside local lighting genius Faheem Bardien. \nThe story? Iconic. Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel introduced the world to Count Dracula and the vampire myths we still love today. On stage\, follow Jonathan Harker\, a young solicitor sent to Transylvania\, as Dracula plots his sinister move to Victorian London. Think female vampires\, shadowy suspense\, and a dramatic showdown between good and evil – all heightened by a rich\, modern Gothic soundtrack and choreography praised as “exquisite… powerfully capturing the burgeoning romantic fascination between the two characters” (British Theatre Guide). \nDavid Nixon\, who served as interim Artistic Director of Cape Town City Ballet in 2023\, says: “It’s amazing to be back with CTCB for this season of Dracula. I fell in love with the company and can’t wait to see our dancers bring this story to life.” \nAfter Northern Ballet’s 2019 cinematic revival put Dracula back on the global map\, Cape Town audiences are in for a rare treat: a ballet that’s as thrilling as it is beautiful\, blending raw physicality with storytelling that grips from the first note. \nTickets: R180–R450 via Webtickets or the Artscape box office: 021 421 7695.

SUMMARY:Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026
DESCRIPTION:Cape Town has established itself as a vibrant hub on the global art calendar\, where contemporary culture unfolds across galleries\, studios\, historic buildings\, and public spaces. At the centre of this momentum is the Investec Cape Town Art Fair (ICTAF)\, returning for its 13th edition from 20–22 February 2026 under the theme ‘Listen’ – an invitation to attentiveness\, reflection\, and exchange. \nLaura Vincenti\n“Cape Town is a city shaped by many voices\,” says Laura Vincenti\, Director of ICTAF. “Through ‘Listen’\, the fair becomes a space for encounter — across geographies\, generations\, and perspectives.” \nThis year\, 126 exhibitors from 23 cities will showcase the work of 490 artists from 44 countries across five continents\, including 35 first-time exhibitors. Leading South African galleries such as Stevenson\, Goodman Gallery\, Southern Guild\, and WHATIFTHEWORLD anchor the fair\, while international galleries from cities including Barcelona\, Paris\, Lagos\, and Stockholm bring a global chorus of artistic voices. \n \nICTAF extends beyond the Cape Town International Convention Centre through its Unbound City public programme\, with exhibitions at BlackBrick Hotel\, Norval Foundation\, and Zeitz MOCAA highlighting the dialogue between South African and international art\, and tracing artistic and political histories. The official VIP Art Hub at The Gin Bar offers evening gatherings with DJs and limited-edition cocktails from 16–22 February\, bringing the fair into the city’s streets and nightlife. \nThe fair reflects a growing global appetite for African perspectives. In 2025\, ICTAF welcomed over 30\,000 visitors and 125 international exhibitors from 58 countries\, while the city’s cultural and tourism infrastructure continues to expand\, with more than 30 galleries\, 43 artist studios\, and over 30 boutique and luxury hotels underway. \n \n‘Listen’ positions ICTAF 2026 not just as a market\, but as a civic and cultural gesture — an invitation to experience Cape Town as a city where contemporary art resonates across streets\, institutions\, and communities\, and where global artistic voices converge. \nTickets: www.investeccapetownartfair.co.za\n#ICTAF2026 #InvestecCapeTownArtFair

SUMMARY:Maynardville Open Air Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Anyone dreaming of long days and an easy holiday mood should put a pin in their diaries for the 13th January 2026\, which marks the opening of the Maynardville Open Air Festival’s Cape Town season with a chamber concert\, Shades of Blue. \nThe festival is now a fully-fledged programme of music\, dance\, opera and a new addition – jazz – with Jazz in the Park (14 & 15 January)\, performed by Blake Hellaby (Piano)\, Buddy Wells (Saxophone)\, Wesley Rustin (Double Bass) and Matt Keswell (Drums). \n \nJazz in the Park is an easy-going repertoire of jazz standards; contemporary and classic jazz compositions\, including timeless favourites such as My Funny Valentine\, Take Five and Summertime. It’s a magical escape from the bustle of the season\, completed by the gourmet Maynardville Food Market featuring offerings such as Poke Bowls\, thin crust pizza\, smokehouse BBQ\, Thai and Tandoori. There is also a full bar on site as well as a pop-up coffee shop. \nPatrons can enjoy their dinner and drinks at the long tables beneath strings of twinkling lights or find a spot in the park to spread a blanket and watch the birds returning to roost. For anyone feeling like a VIP\, these special ticket holders get reserved seating at the market\, early access to the theatre\, priority parking and cushions and blankets set up on their theatre seats. \nBlake Hellaby will perform at the Maynardville Open-Air Festival in 2026\nFrom Louisiana to London and New York\, there’s a rich tradition of jazz concerts in parks where the laid back\, foot tapping classics mingle with the sounds of nature. Just as Maynardville’s open-air concerts boast a rich history\, the programme features musical works that have defined the 20th Century. George Gershwin composed Summertime in December 1933 for his 1935 opera Porgy and Bess; attempting to create his own spiritual in the style of African American folk music of the period. It was first covered by Billie Holiday\, who was then just 21 years old\, but it was Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong’s version that propelled the song into the limelight\, cementing it as both a jazz staple and globally recognisable hit. \nFrom Chet Baker to Miles Davis\, Nina Simone to Sting; My Funny Valentine has been covered by the greats and now has a legendary place in the American songbook.  Take Five is a Brubeck original famous for its unusual 5/4 time signature. It was the first jazz single to sell one million copies. Rhythmically complex\, it’s still incredibly catchy and accessible and is perhaps most famous for its legendary drum solo\, lasting roughly one and half minutes. \nBlake Hellaby is recognised as one of South Africa’s top jazz pianists\, having performed throughout Africa and Europe\, he’s a part‐time lecturer at the University of Cape Town. A stalwart of the Cape Town jazz scene\, Buddy Wells (saxophone) played at every edition of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival from 2000–2016 and has recorded with South Africa’s leading jazz figures. Double bassist Wesley Rustin is a prolific Cape Town bassist who has anchored numerous jazz ensembles and is widely noted for his steady work in the local jazz circuit. Matt Keswell is noted for his refined touch behind the kit on Cape Town’s jazz circuit\, seamlessly blending subtle drive and lyrical phrasing in ensemble settings. \nWesley Rustin will perform at the Maynardville Open-Air Festival in 2026\nSunday Evening Jazz Sundowners\nLater in the season\, The Great American Songbook will also be looking to the jazz greats\, including Cole Porter\, Gershwin and Duke Ellington\, for inspiration. This time with four vocalists accompanied by the Paul Roos Orchestra\, conducted by Wessel Odendaal. The voices are none-other than Katlego Maboe (former SABC 3 Expresso show presenter)\, Tankiso Mamabolo (Chicago\, A Midsummer Night’s Dream & The Tempest)\, and Amy Campbell (AcaNote\, Kinky Boots) – as well as the dynamic singing ensemble Track 5\, a five-voice a cappella group that specialises in classic jazz standards and popular music\, will be on the bill. These limited edition concerts take place 21 February and 1 March 2026. \nMaynardville Open-Air Theatre is a long-held tradition that celebrates its’ 70th year of presenting an annual outdoor Shakespeare play in 2026.
