Chef Kerry Kilpin (Chef Kerry) recently marked 10 years with Steenberg Farm, a partnership that began in 2014. As Executive Chef, she’s played a key role in shaping the estate’s dining experience, from revamping restaurant concepts to leading sustainability efforts.
A Decade of Milestones
Chef Kerry started as Executive Chef at Bistro Sixteen82 in 2014 before taking on the role of Executive Chef for the entire farm in 2018. She led the transformation of Catharina’s into Tryn Restaurant in 2019, aligning it with Steenberg’s evolving vision while honouring its heritage.
Culinary Philosophy & Sustainability
A farm upbringing and training at Silwood School of Cookery and global experience in Thailand, France, and Spain influence Chef Kerry’s approach. She prioritizes seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and is passionate about sustainability, notably leading Steenberg’s partnership with Abalobi to support small-scale fishers and a transparent seafood supply chain.
Key Achievements
- Reimagined Catharina’s as Tryn, creating a modern dining experience.
- Established Steenberg as a leader in sustainable seafood through Abalobi.
- Fostered a culture of mentorship and collaboration within her team.
Looking Ahead
In the future, Chef Kerry plans to launch Steenberg’s first food truck in 2025, explore new event spaces on the estate, and, one day, publish a cookbook to share her culinary journey.
A Personal Reflection
