Blaauwklippen’s Malbec 2021 – A Guaranteed Winter Warmer

As Stellenbosch’s oldest wine farm (founded in 1682), Blaauwklippen has a consistent track record of producing authentic wines, which are in harmony with the simplicity of country living. The new release Malbec 2021 (a Gold medal winner at the 2022 Malbec Challenge), which forms part of their premium wine selection, is a testament to this and is guaranteed to be a favourite amongst wine aficionados this winter.

Blaauwklippen Malbec

Located at the foothills of the Stellenbosch Mountain, Blaauwklippen comprises 115 hectares, with rich and fertile soils, hailed from grey-blue decomposed granite deposited against the mountain slopes. Winemaker Narina Cloete and her team’s vineyard practices are aimed at achieving the perfect balance between healthy vines and low yields, to produce the best quality wines. These same principles apply in producing the Malbec, with grapes sourced from three vineyard blocks on the farm. The grapes were handpicked before undergoing the relevant processes and left to mature in 300-litre French oak barrels (of which 22% new oak was incorporated) for 12 months prior to bottling.

‘The ultimate winter wine, I enjoy drinking the Malbec on a cold wintry night with a seared beef fillet or Coq au Vin. The aromas of dark chocolate as well as the hints of mineral and tobacco nuances support the full-bodied notes of mulberry, cassis, and berry flavours perfectly. The plush chalky tannins with vibrant texture on the palate allows for a fine aromatic finish with a lingering length and creamy flinty text. The perfect food wine,’ says Narina.

No doubt a wine to show off to friends, the Blaauwklippen Malbec 2021 is available directly off the farm at R250 per bottle, or at select specialist wine stores nationwide.
