From Paris and Barcelona to Istanbul and Sydney, ten of the world’s most distinctive fragrance houses came together in Cape Town for an extraordinary celebration of creativity, craftsmanship and scent.
A beautiful fragrance is so much more than a collection of carefully selected notes. It is an expression of personality, a creative vision and, sometimes, a story waiting to be discovered.
That was the thinking behind Skins’ Meet the Creators 2026, which brought the founders and creative minds behind ten of the world’s most distinctive independent fragrance houses to Cape Town for an exclusive gathering of industry insiders, media and fragrance enthusiasts.
Held at the beautiful Quoin Rock Wine Estate in Stellenbosch on 28 October, the event offered a rare opportunity to meet the people behind some of the most coveted names in niche perfumery, with representatives from 2787 Perfumes, BDK Parfums, Ex Nihilo, Goldfield & Banks, Layer+, Liquides Imaginaires, Matière Première, Mind Games, Nishane and Thameen.
Through presentations, interviews and intimate conversations, guests were invited to look beyond the bottle and discover the inspiration, philosophy and craftsmanship that define each house.

The people behind the perfume
What makes niche perfumery so fascinating is the individuality behind every creation. Each of these houses has its own interpretation of luxury, whether through exceptional ingredients, unconventional compositions or a deeply personal approach to storytelling.
From the understated artistry of Barcelona-based 2787 and the Parisian elegance of BDK Parfums to Ex Nihilo’s fearless approach to composition, the gathering highlighted just how diverse the world of independent fragrance has become.

Goldfield & Banks brought the natural beauty of Australia into focus, celebrating native botanicals and the country’s distinctive landscapes, while Liquides Imaginaires explored the relationship between scent and storytelling. Matière Première championed the beauty of exceptional raw materials, allowing individual ingredients to take centre stage.

Elsewhere, Mind Games drew inspiration from the strategy and symbolism of chess, Nishane celebrated Istanbul’s rich cultural influences, and Thameen showcased its distinctive fusion of Middle Eastern perfumery and British refinement.

The programme also introduced Layer+, Skins’ own fragrance-enhancing collection, created to encourage personal expression through the art of fragrance layering.

A South African original
Founded in Amsterdam in 2000 by childhood friends Philip Hillege and Michiel Poelmans, Skins has grown from a single boutique into an international destination for niche fragrance and beauty, with more than 30 boutiques across four countries, including South Africa.
Since entering the local market in 2017, Skins South Africa has established seven boutiques in leading luxury shopping destinations, alongside a growing e-commerce presence.

What makes Meet the Creators particularly noteworthy is that the concept was originally conceived and launched in South Africa. Bringing together the founders and creative leaders of so many independent fragrance houses reflects the relationships Skins has cultivated with these brands over the years, as well as the growing appetite for niche perfumery among South African consumers.
Ultimately, Meet the Creators was about celebrating the people and ideas behind the fragrances we love. Because while a beautiful scent may capture our attention, it is the story, imagination and craftsmanship behind it that make it truly unforgettable.
