In our latest issue we feature three South African artists who explore their world in their own distinct way — from a minimalist style to nature-inspired representations and soft colour palettes, each individual artist has something to say and to share with the viewer.
Juanita Oosthuizen
Juanita Oosthuizen was born and raised in the Cape platteland and began experimenting with a variety of materials from a young age. In the early 90s, she worked in packaging design for a corporate gifts company before starting her own design business in 1998. In 2013, Juanita began her career as a professional artist and has since exhibited her work at various spaces around the country. Her art has been exhibited locally at spaces in Cape Town, Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Pretoria and in galleries abroad in the United States and Italy.
Juanita’s work is minimalist and seeks to capture time and its experience. She incorporates miniature figurines into her artworks, which are mostly in a colour palette of black, white and grey and mounted in box frames for a 3D effect. Each artwork tells a story and is inspired by Juanita’s daily life and love for photography and design.
Nicole’s work can be viewed at StateoftheART Gallery in Cape Town.
