In our latest issue, we feature three unique South African artists who each create work that is deeply personal in its own way. Drawing their inspiration from people, places and real sensations, these artists use a range of techniques and mediums to create pieces that invite the viewer to connect with the genuine emotion that drives the work. In each collection, colour, texture and light play together to allow us to immerse ourselves in the art entirely.
Based in Wilderness on the Garden Route, Janet Botes has exhibited her work in various spaces around South Africa, including galleries in Cape Town, Franschhoek and Bloemfontein. She has also held a residency and shown her work at a group exhibition in Gongju in South Korea. She graduated with a B.Tech in Graphic Design from the Vaal University of Technology and has been involved in numerous projects, organisations and workshops throughout the course of her career. She works closely with Site Specific, a volunteer organisation that develops and supports site-specific and land art projects in South Africa. Deeply inspired by the natural world, Janet creates landscape art, as well as depictions of objects and living creatures found outside. She uses a number of techniques, including drawing, mixed media, watercolours, photography and assemblage.
